Future Stories

Image: Netflix When the first full trailer for Netflix’s anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrived at the beginning of the month, my colleague Linda Codega bemoaned how little the plot was revealed in the trailer. And yet, this new and NSFW trailer for the series, based on the world of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, manages to reveal even less about the show other than it will be gorgeously animated and extremely violent. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners | Official NSFW Trailer | Netflix So, speaking of that plot, here’s the only description Netflix has offered: “The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City—a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.” So now the anime’s title is basically... Cyberpunk: Cyberpunks. Ironically, despite the fact that I have had five body modifications made on my eyes ,...

A crop of the cover of the book. Image: Insight Editions Grab those Reese’s Pieces, your bicycle, and get ready to fly. This week, a brand new book diving into the making of Steven Spielberg’s beloved E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is being released. Written by Caseen Gaines, with a foreword by star Drew Barrymore and introduction by producer Kathleen Kennedy, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: The Ultimate Visual History promises to explore every aspect of what was, at the time, the highest-grossing movie ever. The book is out Tuesday, August 30, and io9 has your exclusive first look at three spreads detailing the most famous, iconic things about the film . First is a spread detailing the creation of E.T. himself. Check it out. Image: Insight Editions Six months seems like a lot of time, but not when you’re building something from scratch—and especially when that something is the star of the film. Talk about pressure. Next up is the filming of not just the most famous shot in E.T....

Photo: io9/Gizmodo Another day, another Mighty Morphin ’ merchandise push. Power Rangers will likely never escape the shadow of its very first iteration , especially when it comes to toys, but Hasbro’s latest attempts to offer fans something it’s been trying to do for a while: a classic Megazord toy that’s worthy of being the heart of a Rangers fan’s collection. The “Zord Ascension Project” Dino Megazord is the first in a new line of Hasbro attempting a more premium riff on its Power Rangers mecha toys. There’s been plenty of attempts to bring a more modern take on the original Megazord to big-form toys in recent years, from Hasbro’s more budget combiner, to the nostalgia-laden Legacy Megazord a few years ago—recreating the iconic original toy, right down to the packaging—or even Flame Toys’ upcoming more stylized take on the giant robot. But the ZAP Dino Megazord wants to strike a balance between something that feels more substantial and modern than the typical Zord figures h...

Image: Marvel Studios English actor Ben Kingsley has portrayed the bumbling, down-on-his-luck theater wannabe Trevor Slattery since 2013's Iron Man 3 . He came back into the MCU recently with an appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings . Now, it seems like he will reprise his role for the Marvel television series   Wonder Man, reports Variety . There’s no word yet on the plot of Wonder Man, but there have been some rumors swirling around that the show would attempt a satire of Hollywood. In the comics, Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, was at various points a stunt man and an actor. Who knows how much of Williams’ backstory will be kept, especially considering that he originally got his powers after making a deal with Baron Zemo . Oh, and his dad’s company was supposed to be competing with Stark Industries before going under, a storyline that seems unlikely considering how little Stark Industries has actually been doing since, you know, Tony Stark died....

Image: Hasbro Remember when we wrote about how Ryan Reynolds was working on a new Clue film ? This film is not that. Dewayne Perkins, an Emmy-nominated writer and actor, has been brought on to write and executive produce a new Clue animated series. Tim Story and Lynn Barrie will also executive produce, according to Deadline . There’s not a lot out there about this, but we do know it will be distinct from the live-action adaptation somehow, and will not be related to Clueless in any way, which is a bummer for me, personally. Clue (the animated series, not the old film starring Tim Curry , new film starring Ryan Reynolds, stage adaption, documentary, reality show, video game, or board game) will be animated by Bento Box Entertainment, Fox’s animation studio. How many more movies will Hasbro be responsible for over the next few years? There’s that Dungeons & Dragons movie , the Beyblade film , a Furby movie in development at Paramount... not to mention all those Transforme...

NASA scrubbed the Monday Artemis launch because of fuel leaks. SLS has a stress crack. NASA engineers found that the crack was actually in the insulating foam on the flange, not in the rocket’s metal structure. “That ice that formed is essentially air that’s being chilled by the tank that gets trapped inside of a ...
