Aubrey Updates on Antiaging Progress and Timing

In his talk at Ending Age-Related Diseases 2019, Estimating the True Complexity of Comprehensive Rejuvenation, SENS founder Aubrey de Grey talks about the intricacies of creating a complete rejuvenation biotechnology framework, including the differing rates of age-related damage and the ramifications of the extensive crosstalk between different types of this damage. The reason for grouping aging damage into seven categories was to group them based upon the likely mechanism for repair. Immune therapy work against Alzheimer’s amyloid. The same immune therapy should work against amyloid in heart’s and the cardiac system. The amyloid problem for the cardiac system is a

The X-Men's New Age Is Messing With Powers It Doesn't Understand

China Will Have $45-70 Billion in Funds to Catch Up With Semiconductors

The fund is called the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund Phase II Co., Ltd. (National Big Fund Phase II). At a September semiconductor industry summit, the Big Fund’s manager revealed that Phase II will focus on etching machines and film, test and cleaning equipment. The goal is to build an independent, self-sufficient and “controllable” industrial chain for the Chinese IC industry. By the

Longevity Biotech Startup Success and What Antiaging Success Might Look Like

In June 2019 at the Ending Age-Related Diseases 2019, James Peyer of Kronos BioVentures gave a talk about the investment aspects of rejuvenation biotechnology. He explained the effects of the population pyramid, showing the audience why cures for age-related diseases are such a necessity, and comparing population projections. One hundred years ago, the three leading causes of death for humanity were influenza, tuberculosis, and pneumonia. Today they are dementias, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. The old-age dependency ratio is the number of people 65 and older divided by the number of people younger than 65, the working-age adults 15-64. These ratios

What Does the Title Terminator: Dark Fate Mean? Not Even the Stars All Agree

The idea of fate is central to Terminator mythology . Is it Sarah Connor’s fate to save the world? Or is there “No fate but what we make,” like characters so often say? Ford Carrier is a Failure With Huge Radar, Elevator, Launch and Landing Problems

US Secretary Richard V. Spencer blames new multi-year delays for the next-generation Gerald Ford carrier on the budget cap limiting the spending to just over $13 billion. This is $2.5 billion over the original $10.5 billion budget. On 10 September 2008, the U.S. Navy signed a $5.1 billion contract with Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia, to design and construct the carrier. As of 2013, construction costs were estimated at $12.8 billion, 22% over the 2008 budget, plus $4.7 billion in research and development costs. The ship was originally scheduled for launch in July 2013 and delivery in 2015.

The Key to Attracting More Blockchain Developers? It’s the Computation, Stupid

The cryptosphere is suffering from a talent drought. Despite all the entrepreneurs, visionaries, gurus, whizkids, architects, and pioneers who have piled in over the past decade, there is still one critical area where the industry is underserved: developers. There is a desperate shortage of skilled blockchain developers capable of operating at the protocol and application level. These engineers of base layer protocols and the decentralized applications built atop them are the drummers of the blockchain world: the backbone that holds the band together. Without the ability to attract and retain the next generation of blockchain devs, the industry’s ability to

Human Get Non-Invasive Direct Brain-to-Brain Communication for Group Problem-Solving

BrainNet is the first multi-person non-invasive direct brain-to-brain interface for collaborative problem-solving. The interface combines electroencephalography (EEG) to record brain signals and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to deliver information noninvasively to the brain. The interface allows three human subjects to collaborate and solve a task using direct brain-to-brain communication. Two of the three subjects are designated as “Senders” whose brain signals are decoded using real-time EEG data analysis. The decoding process extracts each Sender’s decision about whether to rotate a block in a Tetris-like game before it is dropped to fill a line. The Senders’ decisions are transmitted via the

California’s Must Choose Between Uncontrolled or Controlled Fires

Florida had over 2 million acres of prescribed (aka controlled) burns in 2017 and California had 87,000 acres of controlled burns in 2018. Georgia has 1.25 million acres of controlled burns and Alabama had 944,000 acres of controlled burns. California had 1.9 million acres of forests burned from wildfires in 2018 against the 87,000 acres burned in controlled fires. State and federal firefighting agency experts say California should allow more fires that don’t threaten the public to run their natural course. What’s more, they say fire agencies should conduct more “prescribed” burns. Controlled fires are deliberately set, under carefully controlled

$1000 Honda Gasoline Inverter Generator is My Best Option for Multi-Day Blackouts

I am currently living in a zone with regular multi-day power outages in California. I have already experienced three multi-day power outages in the last month and will likely have another one later this week. Any time there are winds with gusts over 30-45 mph in the napa area and into the east bay of the San Francisco bay area then PG&E will cut power because their equipment is dangerous. I have determined that the best option for me is to get a Honda EU2200 generator. One gallon of gasoline can operate it at about 400-watt power for 8 hours.

NASA Director Wants to Waste NASA Budget to Justify Growing Budget Ten Times

Greg Autry – Director, SoCal Commercial Spaceflight Center debated Robert Zubrin about the Lunar Gateway. Greg Autry says that the Lunar Gateway will be part of a larger space infrastructure effort for going to moon, Mars and Deep Space. Autry bemoans the fast that NASA no longer has 5% of the US federal budget like it did during the peak of the Apollo era. Zubrin indicates that we can accomplish great things with a purpose-driven space program that has engineering rationality. NASA has more inflation-adjusted dollars from 1998 to 2018 than it did from 1958 to 1978. The reason for

Entrepreneurial Space Revolution

How big a deal was the success of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy? In 2010, NASA and the Augustine commission determined that it would cost $36 billion and 12 years to develop a heavy-lift vehicle. This meant that the Bush moon program was deemed to be too costly and not practical. SpaceX created a heavy-lift vehicle in six years for less than a billion dollars and it is over 75% reusable. Entrepreneurial space companies are now completing development in one-third the time for one-tenth the cost. This seems to demonstrate that reusable rocket technology development previously failed not for technical reasons

Super Heavy Starship Moon Mission Needs Ten-Ton Lander

Robert Zubrin indicates there is a need to stage the SpaceX Starship from low earth orbit or injection orbits for the moon and Mars. Missions to the moon would be far more efficient with a ten-ton lunar lander. This could be a mini-starship. Mars mission should stage from the TMI (Trans Mars Injection) or low earth orbit. The mini-Starship would look similar in size and shape to the Small Falcon Rocket. The Small Falcon Rocket was imagined a couple of years ago when Super Heavy Starship was called BFR. It would be similar size and possibly a bit smaller. It
