The Black Widow Lawsuit Between Scarlett Johansson and Disney Has Been Settled... in Private

Scarlett Johnansson in Black Widow. Image: Marvel Studios One of Hollywood’s most contentious, high-stakes lawsuits of late—between Marvel star Scarlett Johansson and Disney , in the wake of Black Widow ’s release on Disney+—has been settled. The suit, filed in late July , alleged that the pivot to both theatrical and streaming releases (via Disney+’s “Premiere Access”) violated Johansson’s contract, which guaranteed that the film would get an exclusive theatrical release —and allegedly caused the actor to lose tens of millions of dollars as a result. Unsurprisingly, the feud grabbed headlines and resulted in back-and-forth exchanges in the media until Disney moved to settle the contract dispute in a private setting . It seems that’s exactly what happened. And, apparently, everyone is happy, at least when speaking to the press. The Hollywood Reporter quotes Johansson as saying “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done

In Destiny 2, Lies Are Stronger Than Any Gun

The Witch Queen rises. Screenshot: Bungie The world of Bungie’s shooter-MMO Destiny has evolved significantly since it first touched down in 2014 . The game’s seasonal models that debuted with 2019's Shadowkeep expansion have featured their own mini-stories that have made the original black-and-white narrative the game launched with more complicated. Where previous seasons focused on making old enemies into allies or setting the stage for the inevitable confrontation with the forces of the Darkness, the current “Season of the Lost” is turning its eye on the Guardians themselves. Speaking with Axios , Bungie writer Nikkos Stephens discussed how weird it is that Guardians don’t remember who they are upon their resurrection by the Traveler, that giant god ball that gives Guardians their space magic. “There’s actually some level of law that dictates Guardians don’t reveal each other’s pasts or go seeking them ... there are also a lot of characters who directly tell others not t

Shudder's Behind the Monsters Looks Like a Slay-fully Good Time

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you! Screenshot: Shudder Shudder’s Behind the Monsters is a documentary series paying tribute to some of the biggest and most bloodthirsty names in the game. The first trailer is here and it looks like a lot of fun, with Tom Savini, Heather Langenkamp, Doug Bradley, Tony Todd , and other well-known figures chiming in to share their experience and expertise. If there’s one hallmark of slasher movies , it’s that the killers themselves are the true stars; with very few exceptions, the guys wielding the knives, machetes, razorblade fingernails, angry bees , inter-dimensional torture demons, and other creative weapons are the ones audiences remember most when they leave the theater. They’re also the ones who return again and again, sequel after sequel . As a new Halloween movie, Halloween Kills , prepares for its theatrical and streaming rollout, Shudder is teasing its latest series celebrating the horror genre. Take a look at Behind the Monsters . Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who Exit Announcement Has Left Her in Emotional Limbo

The story’s not over for the 13th Doctor yet. Image: BBC Jodie Whittaker is leaving Doctor Who . But she isn’t, at least not yet. The 13th Doctor is still in residence for another year, and the actor is still filming the special episodes that will form her farewell, before a new Doctor and a new ( okay, new- ish ) showrunner takes control of the TARDI S. Which makes the fact that she’s “gone” a peculiar feeling for the actress. Whittaker discussed last month’s announcement of her impending exit alongside current showrunner Chris Chibnall in 2022 on the Line-Up podcast (via Radio Times ). Reflecting on how she feels about her departure, the actor instead offered a feeling of more confusion: it might be public that she’s “left,” but she’s very much still in the actual business of filming Doctor Who and being the Doctor. The definite article , you might say. “So I am still knee deep in shooting. So to me this hasn’t finished,” Whittaker said of the news. “You’re just in it, but I

A New Good Omens Audiobook Has Nabbed Your Favorite Crowley and Aziraphale

It’ll be a while before you can see them again, but at least you can hear them. Image: Amazon Studios Okay, it’s not news about the second season of the Amazon TV series , but it’s pretty damn good news anyway. Doctor Who ’s David Tennant will voice the demon Crowley while The Good Fight ’s Michael Sheen will voice the angel Aziraphale in an all-new recording of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman ’s apocalyptic dark comedy Good Omens . Consider it a methadone shot to tide us over while we wait for the heroin injection of Good Omens season two (whenever that happens). Tennant and Sheen were marvelous individually and especially marvelous together in the original series as professional foes-turned-close friends who both didn’t particularly want to watch the world end, despite God’s “ineffable” plan and the arrival of the Antichrist. In fact, Amazon really knocked the Good Omens adaptation out of the park with help from Gaiman, who wrote a great deal of the series. I assume, if yo
