Can Marvel Crossovers Ever Escape the Infinity Saga?

This month, nearly a decade to the month after the release of its predecessor, Nintendo released Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 , a return to the beloved ARPG Marvel gaming series that takes comic book crossover mania to a team-based beat ‘em up conclusion. But it also serves as a reminder that...god, things were so… Read more...

How the Smithsonian Prevents Neil Armstrong's Spacesuit From Slowly Destroying Itself With Harmful Gases

Short of entombing it in a giant resin block like a prehistoric mosquito trapped in amber, the Smithsonian’s conservators can’t stop Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit from slowly breaking down over time. But, as Adam Savage discovered , they have come up with a clever way to slow down the degradation. It’s not obvious to… Read more...

Read Game of Thrones’ Finale Script for a Glimpse at Some Bullshit

There were a lot of interesting ideas in Game of Thrones ’ final episode, albeit ones dramatically rushed into, with disregard for actually setting them up over the course of a season (or several seasons) of television. Dark Phoenix's VFX Supervisor Opens Up About the Astonishing Jean Grey That Could Have Been

Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix will go down in history as one of the most perplexing of Fox’s X-Men films. It was a movie that didn’t seem to know what it wanted to be—or even who the X-Men are , frankly. One minute, the X-Men are jetting off into space to have a literally out-of-this-world adventure that brings them… Read more...

Transcending Geography and the Future of World Power

The world we know today has largely been shaped by geography, populations and agriculture. Peter Zeihan has some useful analysis of how geography has shaped geopolitics. He correctly notes the large advantages the US has had with the best farmland and the best connected river system. Rivers can transport goods at 15 times greater energy efficiency than trucks and two to three times better than trains. Pipelines can be as energy efficient as rivers but have a far higher capital cost. The US also has had the advantage of geography that is resistant to invasion and wars. This is less

The Art of Pirated Software

Mars Colonization Will Happen

George Dvorsky, Futurist and Transhumanist, has written at Gizmodo that Humans will never colonize Mars. This is an interesting position from George who wrote in favor of Dyson Spheres in 2012. George wrote in favor of self-replicating space probes modifying the galaxy. George’s predictions for the future are not consistent. A tiny fraction of Dyson Sphere capabilities or self-replicating probe technology would make Mars colonization trivial. The “no human colonization of Mars” will likely end up getting retracted if George Dvorsky and Gizmodo are still around in 10-40 years. The NY Times had to famously retract a 1920 article mocking

Star Wars' Captain Phasma Has Become So Much More Than a Boring Masked Badass

The New Trailer for The Hunt Is Gory, Scary, and a Little Too Real

The cryptic first teaser for Craig Zobel’s The Hunt set the stage for something terrifying: a world where humans hunt others for sport. Almost Static Global Economic Power Rankings From 2010-2030

China passed Japan in 2010 to become the second-largest economy in the world based upon nominal (exchange rate) GDP. China may not pass the United States to become the world’s largest economy until 2030 or later. In 2019, the IMF has China’s economy at 67% of the size of the US economy and 69% if Hong Kong and Macau are included. The IMF projection for 2024 is for China to reach about 82% of the US economy. If the same rate of catch up is maintained then China (with Hong Kong and Macau) and the USA will be within plus
