Will Mimicking The Nervous System Advance Artificial Intelligence?

Frequently reported advances in artificial intelligence make some people curious, and others nervous. While some people picture their next smart appliance purchase being an AI robot, others wonder if an AI robot will take their job. The truth is, neither of those scenarios will be a reality anytime soon. There’s a misunderstanding about artificial intelligence (AI), and it’s a big deal. True AI doesn’t exist yet, and it’s not a likely near future, either. Despite analysis of science fiction movies and scientific reports that claim otherwise. People get excited when new breakthroughs in machine learning are publicized, like the CNBC

China Will Still Go Massively Nuclear but Don’t Want Western Reactor Technology

China was planning to use Westinghouse AP1000 and french EPR (Evolutionary Power Reactor) nuclear reactors. China normally completes nuclear reactors in 4-5 years and at a half or a third of the price of nuclear construction in the USA and Europe. China just finished its first EPR reactor but it was five years late and about double the budget. China has also completed several AP1000 reactors but there delays and budget overruns there as well. Two Different Quantum Dot Qubits Combined to Overcome Limitations

RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science has constructed a hybrid quantum device made from two different types of qubits. They have created a device that can be quickly initialized and read out, and that simultaneously maintains high control fidelity. They combined single-spin qubit called a Loss-DiVincenzo qubit and a singlet-triplet qubit. The Loss-DiVincenzo qubit has very high control fidelity—meaning that it is in a clear state, making it ideal for calculations, and has a long decoherence time. It will stay in a given state for a relatively long time before losing its signal to the environment. Unfortunately, the downside to

China Gets Critical Engine Technology and in Exchange Will Fix Russian Ships

Russia has provided China with critical navy engine technology which will enable China’s newest destroyers to have enough electrical power for large railguns. China will fix and upgrade Russia’s aircraft carrier and other large ships. Russia is unable to fix or modernize large ships after their only large floating dock sank. This shows that China still needs foreign technology for fundamental military technology. It also shows that Russia needs help performing basic maintenance and upgrading of its Soviet-era military technology. China is advancing to fill the gaps in its technology capabilities and is moving ahead to railguns and other technology.

Will the Rotating Detonation Engines Enable Hypersonic Planes?

Disk rotating detonation engines could provide engines that are 10% more efficient, which could enable hypersonic planes. The USA, China, and Russia will be ramping up hypersonic weapon and hypersonic plane spending over ten billions per year each. Combustion can be performed in two different modes (deflagration and detonation). Deflagration is usually treated as approximately isobaric combustion. For detonation, its propagating velocity can reach the order of kilometers per second. Three kinds of detonation based engines are most studied. They are standing detonation engine (SDE), pulse detonation engine (PDE) and continuously rotating detonation engine (CRDE). * Internal combustion engines are
