Netflix has horror movies galore—and is currently on a sci-fi high thanks to Zach Snyder’s Rebel Moon duology. It’s got dystopias covered, too, with Squid Game’s second season coming later this year. But the streamer also has plenty to offer in the way of the fantasy genre, including a current Oscar hopeful.

Here are nine movies, and one brand-new TV show, to help scratch your fantasy itch!

Nimona

Making it to Netflix at all after an unusually long production process was already a triumph for this delightful animated adventure—and now, Nimona is a newly minted Best Animated Film Oscar nominee. Watch on Netflix.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO | Official Trailer | Netflix

Speaking of the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, you can also find last year’s winner on Netflix—a stunning stop-motion interpretation of the classic children’s tale co-written and co-directed by Guillermo del Toro. It features the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Cristoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, and more. Watch on Netflix.

Hellboy (2004)

Hellboy (2004) Official Trailer 1 - Ron Perlman Movie

Keep your Guillermo del Toro marathon going with 2004's delightfully dark Hellboy, which he directed and wrote based on Mike Mignola’s much-loved Dark Horse Comics character. Ron Perlman is perfectly cast as the beefy, disgruntled, demonic-yet-charismatic Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense investigator who gets wrapped up in a sinister plot to trigger the apocalypse. Watch on Netflix.

Troll

TROLL | Official Trailer | Netflix

What Godzilla is to Japan, this giant, angry, freshly awakened troll is to the Norwegian mountains in this creature-feature disaster movie from Roar Uthaug (2018's Tomb Raider). Watch on Netflix.

King Kong (2005)

King Kong Official Trailer #1 - Jack Black Movie (2005) HD

After the success of his Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson turned to another passion project, remaking the classic monster movie that helped inspire his own filmmaking career. Though it makes the most of modern special effects, it’s set in 1933, so there’s no getting this King Kong—made before Warner Bros. picked up the franchise rights from Universal—confused with the cranky ape currently roaring his way around the Monsterverse. Watch on Netflix.

Wonder Woman

WONDER WOMAN - Official Trailer [HD]

Remember back when you were still excited and full of hope for the DC Extended Universe? Recapture that feeling by re-watching the best film to emerge from that now-completed chapter of superhero movie history. Watch on Netflix.

The School for Good and Evil

The School for Good and Evil | Official Trailer | Netflix

Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) directed this adaptation of Soman Chainani’s fairy-tale fantasy, which makes up for a not-that-thrilling narrative with dazzling production design, costumes, and cinematography—plus a cast that only elevates all the eye candy, including Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, and Laurence Fishburne. Watch on Netflix.

Wendell & Wild

WENDELL & WILD | Official Trailer | Netflix

Nightmare Before Christmas’ Henry Selick and master of horror Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope) put their delightfully macabre minds together for this stop-motion tale, which also features Peele’s Key & Peele co-creator Keegan-Michael Key. The once and forever comedy partners play mischievous demon brothers who enlist a rebellious teenage girl to help bring them out of the underworld. Watch on Netflix.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ 40th Anniversary Official Trailer

It’s best to watch this comedy classic at least once a year, to make sure your quote-along game remains as sharp as possible. NI! Watch on Netflix.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution

Masters of the Universe: Revolution | Official Trailer | Netflix

This continuation of Masters of the Universe: Revelation just dropped January 25, and though it’s a series, it’s just five 25-ish minute episodes, so if you binge it, you can pretend it’s one (slightly long) animated feature. This time around, the heroes of Castle Greyskull must face a mechanized version of Skeletor—as well as the dreaded Hordak, voiced by the always-excellent Keith David. Watch on Netflix.

14 of Rick and Morty's Most Excellent Season 4 Moments

In episode nine, “Childrick of Mort,” Rick fought a god when they both fell for the same woman. Er, planet. That moment doesn’t make our list, but it’s still a damn good one. Screenshot: Adult Swim It’s still hard to believe—after so many lengthy delays between previous seasons —that season five of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty is almost upon us. Studio Ghibli Park Unveils Its Wondrous Valley of Witches

Screenshot: Kyodo News/YouTube With the Valley of Witches set to open March 16, Ghibli Park will finally be complete. Since 2022, the attraction—nestled in the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park in Nagoya, Japan—has unlocked realms inspired by Studio Ghibli’s legacy of films . But it’s not to be mistaken for a modern theme park; Hayao Miyazaki himself mandated that the experiences offered at Ghibli Park should evoke being in a Ghibli movie without disturbing the natural surroundings. So it’s more of a throwback to nostalgic attractions and walkthroughs with a carnival ride flair. Inspired by films including My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, the first phase of opening kicked off two years ago, with other areas opening as they were completed. With the Valley of Witches, which features attractions inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, among others, the theme park will finally be open in full beginning March 16. Media outlets such as Kyodo News were able...
