Shawn Levy Really Wants You to Know Logan Matters to Deadpool 3

Don’t worry. Logan happened. Or will happen, after Deadpool 3. Image: Fox Just because Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine doesn’t mean he didn’t die already. From the day it was announced that Jackman was joining Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming third Deadpool movie, the stars were adamant that the events of Logan, James Mangold’s 2017 classic , happened. “Logan died in Logan,” Reynolds said . “Not touching that.” Now, in a new interview, Deadpool 3’s director Shawn Levy not only reiterates that fact, but heaps praise on the previous Wolverine movie while making it clear that Logan is important to the story Deadpool 3 will tell. “I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan,” Levy said to BroBible . “Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan...

Grab a bag of fun-sized candy bars, with or without razor blade, and start the plunge early with these 10 scary Netflix picks . The Pope’s Exorcist THE POPE’S EXORCIST – Official Trailer (HD) Horror’s had enough exorcism tales to last decades—especially with a new Exorcist movie coming next month—but The Pope’s Exorcist, released earlier this year, has found new life on Netflix for a reason. The story is predictable, but Russell Crowe’s character, who’s based on a real-life exorcist who worked directly for the Vatican, is surprisingly delightful, cracking jokes, tooling around on a Vespa, and calling out the Catholic Church for its flaws while still maintaining faith strong enough to battle demons. The Power Rangers' New Era Should Bring Them to Animation

Image: Netflix This past August, the Power Rangers series turned 30 years old. While not entirely on the level of popularity as some of its other superheroic peers, there’s no denying the semi-tokusatsu franchise is in the hearts of fans and a certain generation. And like all long-running franchises, there comes a point where substantial change is greatly needed. Now that Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury has dropped on Netflix—in turn seemingly setting the stage for what could be a complete reboo t of the franchise—the question is what comes next for the teenagers with attitude. It’s known that Hasbro has aims toward making the franchise truly its own thing, with a planned reboot in the works (either as a movie or TV show) and expected to release within the next few years. Whatever those plans end up being, it’s high time the franchise dip its multicolored toes into the realm of animation. Revealing the Maintenance Nightmare of Stealth Fighters

The F-35As have critical failures every 11 flight hours and airframe-only (excluding engines and systems) maintenance is 4.4 man-hours per flight hour. The US air force is trying to fly its F35s from 250-316 hours each year. This would mean 1100-1400 hours each year on airframe maintenance and more hours on engines and systems. Each ... Read more

The Terrifying It Follows Is Finally Getting a Sequel

It Follows is finally getting a sequel. Image: Neon In It Follows, an unstoppable entity stalks its victims to the ends of the Earth. It’s slow, steady, and it can’t be stopped . So it’s almost fitting that while it took a long time, now, after a 10-year wait, a sequel is finally on its way to us. Neon just announced that it’s getting ready to make They Follow, the long-awaited, highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 hit It Follows. That film’s writer and director, David Robert Mitchell, is returning along with star Maika Monroe, whose character Jay was one of the only ones to escape the supernatural force in the first movie. In that film, we learned about a curse involving a presence that can assume the look of anyone, always knows where you are, and will never stop coming toward you, always at a slow, steady walking pace. The only way to get rid of it is to have sex with someone, dooming them in the process. But, if that person dies, the curse reverts back to the previous perso...

A Poltergeist TV Series May Soon Haunt Small Screens

Screenshot: Warner Bros. This actually makes perfect sense, considering Poltergeist is about ghosts that gain access to a suburban family via their TV: the 1982 Steven Spielberg-produced and co-written horror classic, which spawned two sequels of varying quality and a tepid 2015 remake , may be getting a new series. Variety had the scoop, reporting Amazon MGM Studios is in “early development” on the project. No writers are attached as of yet—and there’s no word on the plot, other than “the show will be set within the world of the film,” which seems obvious—but Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce for Amblin Television, which produced the 1982 movie. The trade also reminds us that this isn’t the first time Poltergeist has been adapted for TV, though it’s a safe bet to say few remember Poltergeist: The Legacy despite its four-season, late-1990s run on Showtime and what was then called the Sci-Fi Channel. (“The show followed a worldwide group known as the Legacy a...

Josh Peck Very Well Could've Been Twilight's Edward Cullen

Image: Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP The original Twilight movie and its four sequels were known for many things, chief among them being catapulting the leading trio of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson , and Taylor Lautner into super stardom that. Back during the late 2000s and 2010s, the three of them were hot young actors, to the point that you can’t fully imagine their respective roles of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black being played by anyone else. As it turns out, we almost had a very different Edward in Josh Peck. During the most recent episode of his Good Guys podcast , which featured Lautner as a guest, the Drake & Josh star revealed that he’d auditioned to play the lead vampire, saying that his reps at the time told him to “audition for this movie, it’s based on a book and it’s going to be great. I send in my tape for Edward. A month later, I’m with my manager, and he goes, ‘It’s down to you and three guys. You’re close.’” Peck recalled being surprised that ...

2022's Horror Hit Barbarian is Giving Birth To a Video Game

Image: 20th Century Studios In the same way that video games get turned into movies (or TV shows !) these days, the reverse is true. It doesn’t happen quite as often, but a number of movies have jumped over to games in some capacity, and they’re usually pretty famous or long-running franchises. Star Wars is the most obvious example, but there’s also been a number of games for Tron , Terminator , and Robocop. There was even a pair of Saw video games back in the early days of that franchise. The next movie to hop over into games will be 2022's Barbarian. On Friday, Bloody Disgusting revealed the upcoming title will be for PC and consoles, in a partnership between New Regency Pictures and Diversion3 Entertainment. Diversion3 previously worked on the game adaptations of both Friday the 13th and Evil Dead (the latter of which had its support ended this back September), and executive producer Tim Hesse expressed his excitement at “[expanding] on the settings, characters, and creatu...

National War Machines to Successfully Conquer Large Countries No Longer Exist

During and after World War 2, large areas of the world were conquered and successfully occupied for many years. However, conquering countries and territories has become very rare since 1970. Cambridge studies and other academic studies observe that territorial conquest declined sharply after 1945 and virtually subsided after 1975. However, using new and more comprehensive ... Read more

Live-Action Grand Admiral Thrawn Gets a Worthy Collectible

Image: Hot Toys There’s no more brilliant tactician in the Galactic Empire than the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn. He’s a smart, cunning killer—and soon, you can put that blue baddie on your shelf and make him your property thanks to the team at Hot Toys. Thrawn was first introduced over 30 years ago, in the 1991 novel Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. Instantly, fans became enamored with this new type of Star Wars villain. However, a few decades later, his stories were wiped out of Star Wars canon, only to be reintroduced by Dave Filoni first in Star Wars Rebels and, this year, in Star Wars: Ahsoka . There, for the first time, Star Wars fans finally got to see Thrawn in all his physical glory, performed in live-action by his Rebels voice actor Lars Mikkelsen (brother of Rogue One and Indiana Jones star Mads Mikkelsen). And now, Thrawn has the ultimate collectible: his very own Hot Toys. And it’s a thing of beauty. It isn’t expected to ship until late 2024 at the earli...

Patrick Stewart Thinks He Wasn't That Great in The Next Generation's Early Seasons

Image: Paramount When you have an acting career as vast and varied as Patrick Stewart ’s, you’re allowed a little moment or two of going “well, that wasn’t great, was it?” But it’s surprising to see him reflect so harshly on what, to legions of people, will remain some of defining work: as Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. “I was very uncomfortable with the quality of my work in season one,” Stewart recently said in an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row, discussing his decision to revisit his performance as the captain of the Enterprise-D while writing his new memoir, Make It So. “It was too stagey, too theatrical, too big... I hardly ever smiled, or ever said anything gently, which later on of course became an absolute cornerstone of Picard’s nature. Later on, I could relax.” It’s definitely something you can see for yourself in his performance in early TNG. Those first couple of seasons might not be anyone’s overwhelmingly favorite bits of Star Trek, b...

Doctor Who's Next Animated Remake Could Have Ties to Its 60th Anniversary

Image: BBC There’s no weirder, more Doctor Who thing than the fact that right now you can’t go back and watch the last appearance of this year’s big 60th anniversary villain—the Toymaker, now played by Neil Patrick Harris —57 years ago because 75% of that story doesn’t actually exist anymore. But that could at least change in the not-too distant future. British tabloid the Daily Mirror (via Radio Times ) reports that the next potential target for Doctor Who’s series of animated re-releases reviving the 97 remaining missing episodes from the show’s earliest history could indeed be “The Celestial Toymaker,” presumably to tie into the character’s return next month as part of the trio of special episodes celebrating the show’s 60th anniversary. The seventh serial in Doctor Who’s third season, just a single episode of “The Celestial Toymaker” (its fourth and final) survived the BBC’s archival junking policy of the era, rendering it largely inaccessible to modern audiences. There hav...

Image: NECA You’ll need to join the wait list if you want to get your mitts on NECA ’s new Halloween III: Season of the Witch action figure of Dr. Dan Challis: it’s already sold out, and we can see why. It includes two beverage accessories and comes in window box packaging. This exclusive bundle includes the action figure and a Silver Shamrock coaster autographed by Tom Atkins himself.” Soak all that in: Challis comes with a beer can and a beer bottle, plus a coaster signed by horror legend Tom Atkins—most recently seen in Creepshow’s current fourth season . The Ageless Allure of Found Family in Science Fiction and Fantasy

Image: Harper Voyager, Tor, Orbit, Saga It’s an inescapable fact that genre fiction is littered with tropes. Tropes provide something of a backbone to almost any story you will ever read, particularly in science fiction and fantasy . They are the thing we writers use to ground our stories before drenching them in weird locals and unfathomable magic. From the enemies-to-lovers sensation that is Fourth Wing to the chosen one heart of pretty much every young adult fantasy book, we can find them all over contemporary fantasy. But nowhere is that truer than with found family. It can take many forms. From the at times uncomfortable intimacy of an AI implant in J.S. Dewes’s Rubicon to the “we’re all going to stab each other eventually” bloodlust of M.J. Kuhn’s Among Thieves . The question is, why? What is it about found family that keeps us coming back to it? Does its ubiquity make it tired? Or is its universality speaking to something essential in the human psyche? Even a brief trek...
