Boy, the Silo Opening Credits Sure Feel Familiar

As a fan of Hugh Howey’s books, I am quite excited to watch Apple TV+’s live-action adaptation of the hit sci-fi series Silo, about the remnants of humanity who have been living in an underground bunker for so long they’ve forgotten why they’re there. But Apple has just revealed the opening credits for the adaptation, and I couldn’t help but note they seem a little... hmm. Just listen—and watch—for yourself.

Am I crazy? I don’t think I’m crazy. The music sounds so much alike, from the sinister, increasingly frantic piano to that final chord. (Is it in the same key? I don’t know much about music, but it seems very close if it’s not.) And the visuals, full of languidly moving snippets meant to be evocative of the series and its themes give it the same vibe, even if one’s about robots and the other’s about an extremely vertical nuclear bunker.

This is not a judgment call! If you’re going to compose an opening credits song for a dystopian science fiction TV series, you could do a lot worse than being inspired by the opening for the dystopian science fiction TV series Westworld. But now I’m curious to see how much, if at all, Silo itself will also try to evoke the recently canceled and dumped HBO series. Given that the Silo series was created and run by Graham Yost, who also did the same for the excellent albeit non-sci-fi series Justified, I’m honestly not particularly worried about it not being good TV, however it shakes out.

Silo premieres on May 5, and stars Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, and Tim Robbins.

Loki: Chris Hemsworth Records New Lines for Throg Role

Chris Hemsworth is Thor Image: Marvel Believe it or not, Chris Hemsworth appears in the latest episode of Loki. Well, his voice does. The Kate Herron directed-episode titled Journey into Mystery , takes place in a location at the end of time created by the Time Variance Authority called The Void. It’s in this void that viewers see Throg (a version of Thor in Frog form from Earth-97161) trapped inside a bottle deep underground as he tries to break out to reach his Mjolnir. When Herron was on the ForAllNerds podcast last Friday, she revealed that Chris Hemsworth is the voice of Throg. You don’t hear the Frog say any dialogue, but the scream it lets out is by Hemsworth . Herron had him record new lines and sounds strictly for the show, and she kept it a well-hidden secret. “Throg, getting him in [was fun],” Herron said on the podcast. “We recorded Chris Hemsworth for that, by the way. Studio Ghibli Park Unveils Its Wondrous Valley of Witches

Since 2022, the attraction—nestled in the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park in Nagoya, Japan—has unlocked realms inspired by Studio Ghibli’s legacy of films . But it’s not to be mistaken for a modern theme park; Hayao Miyazaki himself mandated that the experiences offered at Ghibli Park should evoke being in a Ghibli movie without disturbing the natural surroundings. So it’s more of a throwback to nostalgic attractions and walkthroughs with a carnival ride flair. Inspired by films including My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, the first phase of opening kicked off two years ago, with other areas opening as they were completed. With the Valley of Witches, which features attractions inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, among others, the theme park will finally be open in full beginning March 16.
