18 Fascinating Facts We Learned From the Indiana Jones 5 Making-of Doc

This is about to be your level of joy, if you read all these facts about Indy 5. Screenshot: Lucasfilm How perfect of a match was Harrison Ford’s stunt double on the set of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ? The stunt double could literally unlock Ford’s phone with Face ID . This is just one of the fascinating, but not always essential, facts we enjoyed in a brand new making-of documentary. Dial of Destiny is now available for digital download and with it comes an hour-long, five-part making-of documentary that breaks the film down location by location. There are sections on the flashback prologue, New York, Morocco, Sicily, and even the shocking finale , much of which is told through never-before-seen on-set interviews shot during the making of the movie. You’ll see Ford along with co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, director James Mangold , producer Steven Spielberg, and many others dive into spoilers, decisions, intentions, and so much more. It’s well worth a watch and what fol...

More Disney Lorcana Stock Is on Its Way to Local Stores

Screenshot: Ravensburger The Disney Lorcana trading card game arrived with a massive splash at Gen Con this year, with people staying in line overnight to get booster packs. The high demand continued after the convention, and now a Ravensburger spokesperson tells io9 that “additional booster product” will be arriving at local gaming stores in October in the U.S. They expect more First Chapter product to be arriving in Europe and North America at the beginning of 2024. The Ravensburger spokesperson shared with io9 that the company has been working “to get more [ Disney Lorcana ] product into the market to meet demand.” Likely influenced by the reports of the soaring resellers market on online shops like eBay and TCGPlayer, Ravensburger has begun efforts to reprint the First Chapter. “Our goal is for fans to be able to purchase and enjoy the Disney Lorcana TCG product at the suggested retail price,” the spokesperson said, “and we will continue to take steps to ensure a level o...

Debris Shows Interstellar Meteor Was Faster, Tougher and Had 1000 Times More Uranium Than Rocks in Our Solar System

Harvard’s Avi Loeb reports that the Galileo Project just completed the early analysis of 57 spherules from the crash site of the first recognized interstellar meteor, IM1. How do they know the meteor was of interstellar origin? It was detected before impact and was traveling at a speed beyond solar system escape velocity and from ... Read more

This Is What Star Wars' Republic Always Was

Screenshot: Lucasfilm In this week’s episode of Ahsoka , the New Republic brings to bear its frustrating head, as Mon Mothma and a cadre of senators bullishly cast aside the fact they’re sitting on a tinderbox of Imperial resurgence as the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn offers a lit match. If only they could see, our heroes implore them as much as the audience does. How could they be so blind ? Because the New Republic , much like the Old Republic, is the culmination of generations of George Lucas’ political thoughts about what Star Wars is really about—especially in the prequel trilogy, as the rot from within the Senate as it readies its own fall to the Empire drew parallels to contemporary American politics. Decades later those same thoughts and critiques are clearer than ever in Star Wars’ cyclical storytelling, as we now find ourselves with a New Republic that, albeit nascent, is still as it ever was. And it’s just as potent a parallel to the centrist politic of our own world...

Hollywood Execs Can't Stop Picking Fights With Each Other

Image: David McNew / Stringer (Getty Images) Deadline reports that Hollywood studio execs are supposed to meet tonight in order to “ get on the same page” regarding negotiations with the currently striking writing and acting guilds, presumably after the latest round of bad press surrounding the AMPTP’s failure to negotiate in good faith. The point here is that even if Hollywood trades—of which Deadline is one—probably can’t be trusted entirely to report on the strike with certainty, given their famous relationships with the upper echelons of the industry, the fact that one of them is even reporting something as simple as that some of the biggest names behind Hollywood’s studios are “squabbling” speaks to how poorly the situation is going, and how dire the general perception of the studios during these strikes is, right now. While Deadline doesn’t cite any specific named sources here, and many statements are simply couched in vague comments such as “we hear”—reporter parlance fo...

Star Trek: Prodigy's Producer Has Hopes the Show Could Go on for More Seasons

Screenshot: Paramount The unfortunate removal of Star Trek: Prodigy from Paramount+ earlier this year hasn’t been a killing blow for the team on the animated series, who continue to work on finishing the previously greenlit season two in the hopes that the show can find a home elsewhere. But what then? It’s not necessarily the end of the show entirely. Speaking to TrekMovie recently about the show’s unceremonious erasure from Paramount+—and the streamer’s simultaneous decision to walk back its previous greenlight for season two of the animated series, which at that point was in the latter stages of production—executive producer Aaron Waltke discussed some of the initial confusion about the situation, and how Prodigy doesn’t just have a chance to find a new home for its sophomore season, but potentially one that could see the series keep going beyond that. “There was a lot of confusion because it was kind of announced alongside a number of shows that were I believe, officiall...
